you dont need to delete your account to stop notifications, at the top right of the screen, where your screen name is theres a little arrow, click on it.........select manage my profile - account settings - contact mode (Edit)
If you still feel the need to delete your account, it can be done on the same page at the bottom.

Click on your username 'BillJustBill
Click on 'Account Settings'
At the bottom you will find ....
"UNSUBCRIBE This is where you can close your account. All the personal data attached to this account will be deleted. There is NO undo! To unsubscribe from this site"
Click 'EDIT' - tick box "I understand that I am going to delete all the personal data attached to my account and will have no way to claim it back"
Click 'Unsubcribe" button.
Job done.
Click on 'Account Settings'
