i understand that it would be a bit pointless to get a titan X(M) instead of a aftermarket GTX 980Ti since in you can generally see better performance and FPS with any aftermarket GTX 980Ti due to a cherry picked chip that can oc much better than generic Titan X Chips as they weren't made for gaming or overclocking. and the fact that in SLI you can only use 6GB of VRAM. but im not actually going to do it. im just wondering if it was possible as they share the same chip apart from the 980Ti being barely shaved off. despite that can you SLI the 2 GPU's?

Sli, no. Has to be the same chipset and ram size. But you can add both independent of each other, and just use the smaller as a dedicated physX card or i believe both will work independently but together under DX12. But that would limit you to only DX12 applications with no possibility of any sli under DX11. You'd still only be working at the power of the smaller card though.
