My PC is 6 years old and has the following specs: i5 2500K 3.3, 8 GB RAM, GTX 970 4GB, just a hard drive-no SSD. I am trying to determine my weakness in this PC while running Mass Effect and I am not sure more RAM will do the trick. I have monitored this game's performance with Afterburner, and RAM peaks around 7.6 GB, with a pagefile peak of 10.5 GB. I am running the game on the 900p presets to get better performance. CPU can hit 100% at times and usually hits a high of between 60 c and 64 c. FPS stays around 40 to 60, depending what is going on. The GPU run around 65 c to 70 c.
I have the latest drivers; run the game in offline mode, and uninstalled GE Force Experience to have the most of amount of resources available. This has helped performance, but I am wondering if there is more I can do, other than going down 720p. Buying more RAM has crossed my mine, but with a 6 year PC I am wondering if this is a waste, considering how much there is to upgrade on my PC in general, and if the MOBO tanks then that would be a real waste. The game runs well for the most part, but can stutter at different times, with audio dropping out as well.
