Hi,
I've noticed that for some time now, my phone has been getting much better download speed than my desktop. My plan says it should be around 10-15 Mbps, but on my desktop I'm only getting 4, on a wired connection. (it's not wired directly into the router, but instead into a "link" plugged into a nearby outlet that connects wirelessly to another link by the router. There's probably a term for that but I don't know it.). I've updated my drivers as well. I tested both connections and these are the results from Speedtest.net's app:
Desktop (wired): 4.25 Mbps DL 1.43 Mbps UL 25ms ping
Phone (wireless): 11.88 Mbps DL 1.49 Mbps UL 26ms ping
I moved my router from behind a TV, but it hasn't drastically boosted my connection. Sometimes, my desktop computer's network speed can drop to as low as .03 Mbps and then after some time goes back to 4.
Here is some device information:
- Provide us with the make and model of your router
AT&T Uverse Model # 3801HGV
- Provide us with the make and model of your modem
Same as above, I think
- Make and model of USB or PCI Wifi adapter
Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
- Operating system and driver version
Windows 10, Realtek driver version 10.16.323.2017
- You will also need to post your ISP and connection type*.
AT&T, Ethernet
- You will also need to post the exact number of devices connected to your router (this includes tablets, smart phones, laptops, and desktop PCs) as some routers can only handle a specific number of devices at a time.
Maximum 14 devices on the network, usually 3 or 4
- Post any and all error messages you are getting from your ISP or Windows itself
None
- Make and model of switches and how many ports are on each switch
Unsure about make and model. Only one port is on the link from the computer. The router has 4 Ethernet ports.
- Whether or not a NAS (Network Attached Storage) or regular server is connected to the network
Unsure
- Whether or not a Wifi router is connected to the network and/or switch
Yes, this desktop is the only device that uses ethernet as far as I know. The rest are all wireless.
- If you are using the internal LAN connection on your motherboard, a USB dongle, or external PCI card
Internal
One forum I looked at said to uninstall AMD Quick Stream. I have AMD but did not find that installed on my computer.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. I don't know much about internet hardware, so try to be patient with me on that. Thanks!
