Hi guys.

I'm currently using the Asus 5870 2GB Eyefinity 6 GDDR5 GPU and I'm looking to upgrade. Problem is, I don't know where to start. This is a 256bit GPU , so I don't really want to downgrade to 128bit, but I also don't have a small fortune to spend on a new GPU. I was also concerning moving to GeForce instead of AMD.

Can anyone suggest a decent upgrade for a decent price ? And how much will I be able to sell my current GPU for ?

Thanks in advance.

Ok, if you want a modern card, the best your current build would Handle is going to be the RX 570 from AMD, or the GTX 1060 from...

I'm using a I5 2400 CPU (socket 1155), 16GB Corsair RAM @ 1600mhz. I might upgrade my CPU to i7 depending on what I can get and for what price. I don't want to upgrade to DDR 4 anytime soon as it will be too expensive to replace CPU , motherboard and RAM all at once. I use my computer for gaming and graphic design in Photoshop, bit would like to start video editing in after effects. My main concern is to sell my GPU before it's worth nothing.

Have a look on ebay to see what others may be selling that card for, it is very old by GPU standards.

I'll have a look, thanks. I just need to know what I'll be replacing it with before I sell it.

I like to start with a fixed budget and then I look at the cards that fall within that budget, it's what works for me but you might approach things differently.

I don't really want to spend more than ZAR3000 (235 USD) on a GPU if that would be possible

Ok, if you want a modern card, the best your current build would Handle is going to be the RX 570 from AMD, or the GTX 1060 from NVidia. The 1060 comes in two different types, there is the more powerful 6GB and a cut down and much cheaper 3GB version. The 3GB would be better suited for your computer, however, if you are going to be gaming at higher resolutions than 1080p or you do get an i7 then the 6GB might be the better option. If these cards are too expensive, then the GTX 1050Ti would work great too, but price to performance is higher.

Thank you, much appreciated. Would you rather go for Nvidia or AMD ?

There's really not much difference between the two. A couple of years back, most people would say NVidia cards were better, they used less power, ran cooler and had better drivers. Most of these are no longer true....or as true. AMD cards still use a bit more power than their NVidia counterparts but their drivers are much better than they use to be and they seem to support their older cards for longer than NVidia.

At the end of the day, my choice would come down to who had the better card at the performance level I'm looking for. If I had to choose between the RX 570 or the GTX 1060 3GB, then I'd go with the 570. If I had to choose between an RX 560 and GTX 1050, I'd go with the 1050.
