I've come to the conclusion that how well a game runs typically depends more on the game itself rather than the hardware.

For example, the ghost recon wildlands benchmarks I've seen really don't bode well for the less expensive cards, so if you want to stay confident in your card over the next few years, I'd definitely save a bit and go for the 1070. You'll likely end up loving a future game that's really hard to run so the extra power of the 1070 will surely be worth it to run everything maxed out and steady.

It's really quite a powerful card. I'm using my 1070 at 1726p (80% of 4k) to hit 60 fps on just about everything maxed out. It's awesome.

So an added benefit in case of the 1070 is that you'll be able to downsample from...

Depends of amount of money you want to spend and your psu If you dont care about money and you have good psu you should go with gtx1070, but If you dont have a lot of money you should go with rx 580 :)

Buying the gtx 1070 will future proof you for a bit. Plus if you do decide to go with a 1440p monitor it will be able to easily handle it. That would not be the case with the 580. One more thing. The 1070 will be able to handle all your games playing at 1080p at max settings. Not sure that can be said for the 580.

Get the 1070.

So an added benefit in case of the 1070 is that you'll be able to downsample from higher resolution for an extra boost in fidelity. I did this in bf1 at 1080p with great results before getting my 4k display.

Hope that helps!
