Does my CPU remain overclocked when removed from motherboard?

I have sold my motherboard only and removed my overclocked i7 4790K CPU. I wish to sell my overclocked i7 4790k by itself. I overclocked this CPU. My question is does the overclock remain on the CPU or will it revert back to stock when put in a new motherboard?

Not really Seanie. All the boards I've ever used once they are removed from the PSU will lose their settings. Yes, there is the button battery to keep them. But from the boards I've used it really only keep the date and time. Once it's unplugged and shipped I'm 90% sure the board will load standard defaults. I say 90% because I'm sure there is some odd board out there that someone thought it was a good idea all the settings are kept under any condition.

When I've bought used boards I always reset the bios and then go in and plug in my own settings. I hope the buyer does something similar.

No it doesnt stay overclocked, its the motherboard that controls the overclock of the CPU.

However, if you have sold the motherboard, make sure you clear the bios before you send it, if you send it with its overclocked settings still applied in the bios, you could have one very unhappy customer on your hands, it could damage the parts that they are going to use with it or even kill them.
