when i last upgraded to my current 5930K i got an enermax liqmax II 240 and i decided to try using coollabs liquid ultra for the cooling

i recently noticed my temps were getting a bit high so i am looking to re-do everything (but use more standard paste this time i'm going for thermal grizzly kryonaught)

i have however discovered that the liquid ultra seems to have stuck itself to both the IHS and the CPU cooler block and is refusing to budge

i have so far been given the following advice on other sites

put some aluminium foil on it - gallium really likes aluminium more than other metals this kinda makes sense to me

brasso

isopropyl alchohol (and coffee filters)

sandpaper

does anyone else have any idea as to how i can remove this stuff?

Solution
Coollabs liquid ultra used to come with a small grey scouring pad to remove it and 2.organge brushes to.apply it, not sure if it does anymore, but if you have lost those parts, you can buy very cheap a pack of the sponges with the green scouring pads on them, just work the same, use it dry, once the worst is off use some IA to get the rest of or.something like surgical alcohol wipes, using sand paper you will void your warranty, risk killing the cpu, and struggle to.sell.in the future.

isopropyl alchohol, got it off for me, well kind of, I used surgical alcohol wipes that you can pick up from any pharmacy, dont use sand paper or brasso, they are both abrasive

Last time I wanted to remove it from the base of the waterblock I was using at the time, I used a razor to scrape most of it off, then sanded the base of the block and the IHS with progressively finer sandpaper until it was mirror smooth again. (This is also called "lapping")
