Hello,
i am looking to buy either an Asus rog 1080 O8G (OC) or the Zotac 1080 Amp Extreme. What caught my attention was on Asus specs it says ddr2 under memory clock. I can't find what kind of memory is on the Zotac but i think the ddr2 is not the fastest available among the 1080's. I am a bit confused as to if the asus memory technology is a bit outdated or if i just don't know enough about the topic. I'll assume i can post links so here they are: Asus https://www.asus.com/us/Graphics-Cards/ROG-STRIX-GTX1080-O8G-GAMING/specifications/
Zotac https://www.zotac.com/product/graphics_card/zotac-geforce-gtx-1080-amp-extreme
Thanks in advance

Oh and the Asus site is wrong. Even 10 years ago only the lowest end cards had DDR2....not sure what's up with that. Both those cards have the original 10Gb/s GDDR5X. The Zotac card has a factory overclock on the memory. Only the cards released in the last few months have the faster VRAM. Like this one:

The 11Gb/s stuff is the same as found on the 1080 Ti.

Are you sure? Have you looked at the webpage i linked? Also thanks for the warning, but does that affect me in any way pther than less free slots and more space taken up? Do i have to have a bigger case because of the mounting points?
Sorry for all the questions and thank you for taking your time.

The GTX 1080 is available with both 10Gb/s GDDR5X and recently with newer 11Gb/s GDDR5X. The performance difference is very small. Just a few percent. Nvidia made the newer, faster VRAM available a few months ago with the price cuts.
