blackomenz :
hey guys, i'm having a hard decision between choosing gtx 1060 3gb, gtx 1060 6gb or rx 580 4gb.
in my country the price of those gpu is $229 for rx 580 4gb, $231 for gtx 1060 3gb & $269 for 1060 6gb
im mostly playing game on 1080p and doesnt have plan to upgrade my monitor to higher resolution.
should i choose rx 580 for cheaper price or gtx 1060 for future proofing?
and are 500w psu sufficient for those GPU?
Thx for the help..
I just had 2 RX 480 8GB OC cards from XFX both of which crapped out on me within 15 days of install on an ASrock b350 with 16gb of ram and a ryzen 5 1500x / stock cooled.
The card performed great! maxed out all my games (ARK-War Thunder-Warface-Astroneer-Miscreated and more) all either maxing out the FPS cap or hitting 130+ FPS
But then... the card would poop out..... i was told by the tech at NCIX where i purchased the card that he had more then 10 of the RX 480 8GB returned with that same problem, just randomly a black out screen and no picture with no reason.
So i opted for an RX580 from a different manufacturer.
The Bad News....
Apparently there is a surge in bit coin prices and bit coin miners have bought up the world stock of affordable mid-range GPU's to use for cryptocurrency mining. so we gamers are left to scramble for whats left at inflated prices from greedy marketers. The XFX RX 480 8GB OC XXX edition that i originally purchased from NCIX.com for $349.99 CDN is not even on their website any longer. The RX 580 8GB is currently listed between $364.99 and $458.48 CDN and thats for the 8GB version from varied suppliers. but good luck finding one withing the next 3 months under $600.00.
i have scoured the internet looking for one for myself. everything is over priced and up to 2 month delivery or a wait list. The RX 580 8gb would future proof you. as the over powered 1080's are 11GB. But the new RX Vega from Radeon that releasing at the end of july is a whopping 16GB of ultra-fast HBM2 memory, and could be overkill for gaming. but the release edition is apparently not for gamers. We will have to wait and see. Paired with the new ryzen threadripper CPU its supposed to be a beastly pairing.
So there are choices to be made, if you can locate and find a RX580 4 or 8 GB for a fair price make sure its not from XFX. i wouldn't recommend them as you will waste more time going back forth to your local PC retailer then you will enjoying your product. Or you can wait for more to shipped around the world and hope your lucky enough to snag one. but there is no word on a shipment date for the cards. im told 6+ weeks for my RX580 8GB from gigabyte. purchased through ncix.com
If you must be gaming and gaming NOW! i would recommend the MSI Geforce GTX 1060 6GB.
MSI GeForce GTX 1060 Twin Frozr VI 1809/1594MHZ 6GB 8.1GHZ GDDR5 G-SYNC VR Ready Video Card.
This Card is the top Rated GTX 1060 on the market and completely ready for any VR gaming you want, at high settings.
Can handle Tomb raider Rise of the tomb raider on 1440 at 55FPS. any games at 1080 will look great.
So theres some info to chew on, in my opinion and some others have mentioned it most triple a titles use 2GB of vram. and depending on your cpu, games dont utilize more then 4 cores (if you have a 6-8 core cpu) those cores would helpful for streaming or recording. Buying a card with more then 4GB of ram would guarantee your gaming quality will stay at ultra for at-least the next 2 years, and if you do decide to upgrade your monitor you will be sure to max out its resolution.
i myself am stuck between waiting for the RX580 8GB and buying the MSI GTX 1060 i mentioned.
Goodluck in all your future gaming
