Hi,

I am not a noob to cooling, but I'm not quite understanding what is going on here. Here is my cooling setup:

Gigabyte GA-Z97-D3H
NZXT s340 case
2 x SP120 exhausts (3-pin)
Front mount rad - Corsair H110 GTX - push/pull config (intake direction)

So, I want to changing fan speeds based on CPU power usage. My options in the BIOS are simply for each header and they are as follows...(from the manual)

CPU Fan Speed Control (CPU_FAN Connector)
Allows you to determine whether to enable the fan speed control function and adjust the fan speed.

Normal - Allows the fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. You
can adjust the fan speed with System Information Viewer based on your system
requirements. (Default)
Silent - Allows the fan to run at slow speeds.
Manual - Allows you to control the fan speed under the Fan Speed Percentage item.
Full Speed - Allows the fan to run at full speeds.
Fan Speed Percentage - Allows you to control the fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Fan Speed Control is set
to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.

Ok. Cool. So, I understand that my 3-pin corsair fans can't be changed via PWM (obviously), but the manual is telling me that Normal allows the changing of fan speeds based on CPU temps and can be adjusted. My questions are...

1. Can I change my 3-pin fan speeds to options other than Silent, Normal, Full speed

I would simply like to have my corsair fans ramp up when CPU is under load, and slow down when its not.

P.S. I don't know why I ever buy 3-pin fans
Thanks

Many , but not all motherboard still support 3pin speed control.
in your position, I would choose normal.
Then use the advanced settings in bios or windows app to set a custom temp or fan curve.
If your board does not support control on all headers you can set them to high/low in the bios.

Edit:

If only one or two of the motherboard headers support 3pin control, you can get extension splitters to control 2 fans per header.

Hi, thanks for your reply.

Let me explain the bios settings better... Each fan header has the options listed above. That is, manual, silent, normal, and full speed.

Manual allows you to enter PWM mode and set a value. That is all. There are no manaul adjustment or curve settings for normal, silent, or full speed.
