Hello all, i'm stumped on whats going on here, at what i thought was my gpu is now a mystery. i had an R9 280x sapphire toxic and i was having what i thought was heating issues, my pc would randomly freeze while playing games and cause me to do a hard reset. i thought the gpu was the problem so i swapped it with a lower end card, a gtx 750 sc and while i was playing something even as simple as cs go i get a complete freeze. no sound no studder and no warning just a freeze. i did a memory test and all results came back negative. I recently ordered a new gpu and a new case but those are just an upgrade not a problem solver. I don't believe it is a heating issue but currently i have the nzxt h440 and i've read that they are bad for heat. S.M.A.R.T hasn't told me anything about my HDD's or my ssd, and this isn't the first time the freeze has happened. I've also checked the windows error logging and system events that would cause the freezing and nothing has come of it.

any help would be greatly appreciated
thanks

AMD Athlon x4 860k
16gb corsair vengence ddr3 1600mhz
R9 280x Sapphire toxic (old)

Audigy sound blaster 2 zs

How about your CPU temps? You didn't mention about your CPU at all. Though that processor is enough for most games, but if its overheating, than its capability won't matter much...Please try running stress tests like AIDA64. It could be that your CPU is overclocked too much, if you have overclocked it. If you have overclocked it, try reducing the overclock a little.

I haven't overclocked my cpu at all and i ran AIDA 64 for approx 40 mins so here is my results:
https://prnt.sc/ffz7li

i don't think that it is a temp problem. anything else?

Well, definitely no heating.

Honestly, I can't tell. I guess all you can do right now is wait for the new hardware to arrive. Maybe you should try running a virus scan and, if possible, do a clean install of Windows. Other than that, I really can't be of more help. Sorry :').

Well, i got my new case a corsair spec-01 low budget but good for airflow and minor modifications, and my new gpu a gtx 1070. after wiping my ssd and doing a fresh install. verified all my files for steam games i have had no performance issues what so ever. i just thought id check in and tell ya that the problem is fixed and i think it might of been a short from my i/o shield.
thanks for the help
