So I was playing Rocket League and my computer randomly shuts off, like as if I just had a power outage. No BSOD or anything. The computer wouldn't turn back on so I decided to unplug the PSU and plug it back in after 10 mins of it being turned off and started it up again. I installed a program called CAM to help monitor my CPU temp and GPU as well. My specs are:

CPU: Intel i7-7700k @ 4.20 ghz (not OCed)
GPU: Nvidia GeForce GTX 1060 6GB
RAM: Crucial Tech. 16GB DDR4
MOBO: ASUS PRIME B250M-C

While my computer is idling, my CPU gives a temp of 41 degrees Celsius and while gaming, it got up to around 89. My GPU was alright, only hitting 72 degrees celsius on Black Ops 3 with everything on Ultra at 1080p. The CPU has the stock CPU cooler on it, but after looking at numerous other threads, it seems to deal with the thermal paste on the processor. So should I get a new cooler and new thermal paste, or does this sound like something complete different than my CPU?

Solution
89C is very close to shutdown temps. How's the airflow in your case? With graphic cards dumping all the heat into the chassis (unless it is a blower style) it is important to have good airflow otherwise the heat will just sit inside and your components will try to cool themselves with the hot air. If you only have, say, one intake fan then investing in an exhaust fan can improve the airflow and with that the heat dissipation tremendously.

Do not reapply thermal paste or replace the cooler just yet. The stock cooler, while not the best, should be enough to run w/o any overclocks. If nothing helps then yes, demount the CPU cooler and CLOSELY look how the thermal paste has spread. If you can see visible gaps (check both the CPU and the...

Yes it's due to the heat. CPU shuts down automatically when a factory preset temperature is reached. To solve it you can re apply the thermal paste on the CPU, if that doesn't work you should try a different CPU Fan. Also install enough Fans on the chassis to eliminate the heat as much as possible since you are running a GPU.

If you can see visible gaps (check both the CPU and the cooler block) then the application method might've been the issue. If there aren't any gaps I'd be looking elsewhere for the culprit.
