Should i go for a 120 gb corsair mp500 nvme m.2 ssd, or for a similarly priced regular sata 250gb ssd ($85)?

I dont want to waste my m.2 port with a sata m.2 ssd, but also not one of my few sata ports on a crappy 250gb ssd

I only plan to use the ssd as a boot drive and for small programs, games and bulk will be on my hard drives.

Opinions please? Trying to save a buck.

Regular sata. You will benefit much more from double the capacity than theoretical speed of nvme drive, which in your case will be virtually unnoticeable in practice.

Moreover, 250GB drive will also allow you to install several games to it, and some games *really* love SSDs (much faster level loading).

Okay thanks for the reply, would you say the WD blue 250gb ssd is a good option for the same price? its the only solid option i can find in that price range? or should i bite the bullet and spend $20 extra and get something like the 850 evo/crucial mx300 instead?

It is a good drive, not as fast as samsung of course, but you will hardly notice. If you intend to keep this drive for a long time, say 5 years or more, and need better warranty, spending extra for samsung is worth it. Otherwise, just get wd blue, in fact virtually any ssd is a huge improvement over mechanical drive.

As long as it isnt terrible like those kingston drives, thanks for the advice!

Last question, the WD blue 250gb has a m.2 version too for the exact same price, i know it will run at sata speeds, should i get that one or the regular 2.5 inch?
