I am going to build my first pc probably within a month. And where i live we get usual powercuts due to the heavy rain and stuff. For my budget i have few options like corsair vs550w/ gigabyte pb500W / seasonic s12ii 520w. My question is can a machine be severly damaged from these sudden powercuts? If so buying a high end psu instead can bear them? (i5 7500 and a gigabyte 1060 xtreme gaming bought already)

Solution
Quality power supplies, like that Seasonic, can lessen the risk of damage to your system due to sudden and/or frequent power cuts, but if they really do happen that often, you really should consider getting a Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) as the nerd 389 suggests.

1) It helps block the spikes from reaching your hardware.
2) It does provide back up power (for a limited time) that allows you to safely save your data and power down your system.

It is possible for power outages to cause issues with computers. Most modern computers won't be physically damaged by them (usually), but if you're installing updates when the power goes out, it can corrupt Windows.

You may want to consider getting a UPS to keep the computer running long enough to safely shut it down.

Regarding those PSUs, the S12II is the best of the three. I wouldn't recommend the other two at all.

The other option for a PSU in this price range that's worth considering is a grey label CX550m.
