Question from Outwiththeoldinwiththenew : "PSU sizes and case"
Outwiththeoldinwiththenew :
so i am looking for a PSU and saw it was ATX but my case has a micro ATX motherboard, I was also looking for a motherboard.
specs
RAM: 2 - 4GB PC3-10600 DDR3 1333MHz
Power Supply: HEC-400VN-2DX
Video card: GEFORCE GT 730
Mother board: foxconn M61PMP series
CPU: AMD FX-8300
ATX is the standard for basic computer hardware. Basically covers the mounting points and physical dimensions of many aspects of the overall modular computer. As well as the voltage and power standards.
ATX motherboard sizes are different sizes of boards, but they all take standard ATX power connectors 20-24-28 pins and these days usually an additional 4-8 pins for direct CPU power.
As for a PSU, you do have to start with the right form factor there. Standard ATX power supplies are the most common, but many vendors use custom or Small Form Factor supplies to make chassis smaller. Something in the 430-500W range should be good enough as you have a low power video card.
For an FX-8300 you probably want something like a 970 or 990FX chipset board. These are available in MicroATX and ATX form factors. If your old motherboard is MicroATX and you don't plan on getting a new chassis, that is as large as you can go.
If you can look at the label of the power supply you should be able to learn more about its size and shape from the model number and wattage.
