Hi, I recently purchased the Asus Dual Geforce GTX 1060 OC Edition with 3GB GDDR5 and am still slightly disappointed with fps in game. I have an i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40GHz with 6GB of ram. I'm not great with computers and am wondering what i can upgrade for the least amount of money to get the most performance out of the GPU. What's more essential for gaming, more ram, a modern motherboard, a better CPU, or a combination? Thanks :)

Then please tell me which motherboard you're using, and how many RAM slots are occupied. What I suspect is going on is that you're using only a single 4 GB and 2 GB RAM chip. I also suspect that one of them is in the incorrect slot, and therefore isn't be utilized by Windows. Please respond back as soon as you can.

Addendum: What version of Windows are you using? In Windows 7, if I right click on "Computer" and left click properties, it'll say how much installed RAM is being utilized. Please tell me what it says.
It would help if you would specify:
A)what games do you play?
B)what settings and resolution?
C)what does "slightly disappointed' mean?

In PC gaming not all games run the same. Not all players run the same resolution. Not all players require the same framerate to be satisfied. That's why it's important to be as specific as you can.

Thanks for the reply.
A)Player Unknown's Battlegrounds (although i know this game isn't yet optimised fully), King of the Kill, Minecraft, GTA 5.
B)All games above are played on the lowest possible settings except minecraft which is fairly easy to run.
C)In game, fps drops dramatically making it basically unplayable until it loads and the frames shoot back up (drops from about 50fps average to anything under 15fps at times), there is a lot of lag spikes and the games seem to crash a lot causing me to restart them. As well as this, when first launching the game it takes a long time to render some textures even though they are on the lowest possible setting.

My computer is probably five or so years old now and technology moves fast, but i expected by installing a better graphics card to be able to handle the games mentioned above.

6 is uneven. Get 2x4 dual channel or 8GB single RAM at least.

Core i7-2600 is still decent and should perform good in games based on Unreal Engine such as PlayerUnknownBattleground

The question is how many FPS do you expect to have.. FPS drops are not system-related if you are talking about multiplayer servers where number of players affects server performance rather than users.

Generally speaking, and depending on your motherboard, you "might" be able to upgrade to I7-3xxx series.
but I concur with previous poster, I would push your ram (depending on the ability of your motherboard) to 8 and I would suggest 16GB even
the 1060 3GB isn't a bad video card, about the same power as the GTX 970 SC AXC2, and should be able to handle P.U.B but since I play it myself I did notice a drop in FPS since the last update, so they are still working on optimizing the game. I don't think you need to change the video card, just a bit of patience.

Cheapest way to get better performance is to at least get 2X4GB DDR3 kit or 2X8GB if you have the money. But 3GB of VRAM might be limiting you. i7 2600 still performs good at games considering how old it is. If you want to build a new system then wait for AMD and Intel to drops their new chips this month and make a decision then.

A 1060 with your CPU should be able to just about max out those games at higher settings. Do you have the monitor plugged into the video card? Did you install the drivers from nVidia web site for the card?

It may be two 2GB sticks and two 1 GB sticks, will be 6 but will run in dual channel mode.
