Hi,

I'm building a new machine. My toaster uses DDR3, so this is my first rig using DDR4.
My motherboard does not post. The RAM light comes on indicating something is wrong there. This is what I'm working with:

1. Kaby Lake CPU (i7 7700k)
2. MSI Pro Series Intel Z270 DDR4 HDMI USB 3 SLI ATX Motherboard (Z270 SLI PLUS)
3. I have tried 1 8gb stick of "Corsair 8GB Kit (1x 8GB) 2133 MHz CL15 288-Pin DIMM DDR4 RAM Memory" and then when that failed, 1 4gb stick of "Ballistix Sport LT 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) DIMM 288-Pin - BLS2K4G4D240FSE" in the same designated slot (Dimm A2) as recommended by my mobo's manual.

My mobo does not post with either stick. I have also tried putting these single sticks in other slots. It still won't post.

4. I also tried those exact two sticks in another motherboard, the "ASUS ROG STRIX Z270E GAMING LGA1151", with the exact same CPU I have installed into the Z270. That did not post either!

My question is...it's highly unlikely these two RAM sticks are bad, but I don't have a working computer to check against. Do I suspect the CPU is bad? I cannot visually tell anything wrong with it. The CPU fan comes on fine, the motherboard appears to be fine, it lights up and everything. Is the RAM light a red-herring sometimes, and it's actually something else? Considering I switched out the motherboard, the only thing that I think could be wrong is the CPU.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me?
