Computer moniter, mouse and keyboard stops working when new RAM is installed.

Dear Tom's Hardware Community,

I am seeking some help with my new stick of RAM. Previously, I had a mix and match setup, with 2 1GB sticks and 2 2GB sticks. I decided to upgrade using my Birthday Money to a 16GB DDR3 Hypertec RAM stick (here's where I bought it from: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computers-Accessories/Hypertec-HYMDL8916G-16GB-Registered-10600R-Equivalent-Memory/B008E3KAI2/ref=sr_1_251?ie=UTF8&qid=1494859619&sr=8-251&keywords=16gb+ram)
and when I put it into my computer, it started beeping. I realised at first that this was because my Motherboard could only take 16GB of RAM, and I had 21GB. So, I removed everything except from the 16GB and when the computer started up, the mouse, keyboard and monitor didn't turn on. I removed the stick and put the rest in and it worked again. I am confused as to why it breaks it like this, and if there is anything I can do to fix it, as otherwise I've wasted a fair bit of money.

Thanks,
Arcanium.

Looks like that board is dual channel for your RAM. You may need to fiddle with that in BIOS to get it to run single channel only.

Also, you might want to try returning that RAM. Unless that's a very specific kind and is like the only kind you can get, you can find 2x8GB sticks of DDR3 for like 100USD. https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231568
  3. I got the one I have for 53GBP, they quadrupled the price after the last one in stock (mine) was dispatched and restocked.
Also I will try what you have suggested tomorrow.
  4. It didn't work, and I also figured out that it's to do with the RAM itself. Although there was no option on the BIOS, a 2GB memory stick that was in previously worked fine.
