System specs:

Mobo: Gigabyte AB350 Gaming (non 3 version)
CPU: Ryzen 5 1600

All weekend long up until today's morning my PC was plugged via ethernet cable to my modem at my hometown. After driving 40 minutes and leaving it at my appartment for 9 hours, I get back with a new ethernet cable to run from the modem in the living room to the desk in my room and surprise surprise; no internet.

I tried plugging my brother's laptop and sure enough, it connects and receives every drop of bandwith. The modem's 'Ethernet port 1' lights up green and I can browse with no hiccups. If I unplug the same cable and plug it into my PC's ethernet port, the modem's 'Ethernet port' lights up green, but my PC's ethernet LEDs are off and there is NO access to the internet.

I have a USB Wi-Fi adapter but I lose about 40% speed (that's why I got the cable). So using that; I downloaded the latest drivers (both from the manufacturer's website and Realtek's website; which where pretty much the same) and during installation it shows me a message that reads: "Detecting Realtek ethernet card and cable" and then it fails and shows "The Realtek Network Controller was not found. If Deep Sleep Mode is enabled Please Plug the Cable".

Looking at the Device Manager and Network Adapter window I cannot find any Ethernet related drivers/adapters. So at this point I'm completely lost and looking for help.

Is it possible for my adapter to just die like that or can I try something else?

Solution
Would need to do some testing to be sure.

Disable wireless, reboot, re-enable the wired adapter.

When you plug in an ethernet cable does the plug feel snug and secure? Does the port wiggle or move? Verify no debris inside the port.

Can you open the case and inspect the port and the surrounding spaces? Look for signs of damage, debris, loose connections, etc..

Overall all if you can demonstrate that everything else involved is working except the adapter then yes it may have failed.

But you do need to ensure that the problem is not configuration related.

Switch the ethernet cable ends. May be some slight physical difference that makes the cable work in the laptop and not the PC.

Does the PC have both a built in motherboard port and a third party PCI-x ethernet card? If both verify that you are using the correct port.

Did you try running the built in troubleshooter? Right click network icon (most likely lower right screen corner) and select "Troubleshoot problems". See what the troubleshooter finds and fixes.

Failing that go to "Open Network and Sharing Center"

Be sure that you have enabled the wired adapter on your PC and disabled the wireless adapter.

Doublecheck that the wired adapter is correctly configured for your network.

Run and post the results of "ipconfig /all" (without quotes) from the command prompt.

It's a built in port only. No PCI e card.

Troubleshooter does not identify any problems and the network connections window only shows the wireless adapter.
