I have several older hard drives from desktop PC's.
I have 2 Western Digital external hard drives
a 1 TB and a 3 TB
and 3 or 4 internal laptop hard drives.
The 2 external WD's just quit working while in the casing but works fine with a USB adapter. This is where I get confused about a casing for them. The WD's are
WD Caviar Green (1TB, SATA-300, 32MB Buffer)Connector Type 7 pin Serial ATA Storage, Interface Serial ATA-300 Interface Serial ATA-300.
One is Storage Interface Serial ATA-600 Interface Serial ATA-600.
I have other internal drives that are basically the same as above. The laptop drives are Connector Type 7 pin Serial ATA ,Storage Interface Serial ATA-300. Now heres another thing I don't understand, I also have drives that are IDE drives.
Is it possible to purchase an enclosure that allows for both types? I have a lot of photos on all these drives I'd like to retrieve and then maybe I'd just use the largest drives to keep in the enclosure. One drive belonged to my son who passed away at 18 from childhood cancer. His computer, windows, messed up and I pulled the drive and gave the rest away. I know he had photos and drawings, etc on it so it important to me to retrieve that information, its an IDE drive.
So I guess I'm asking is there an enclosure that will work with all drives, do I need to buy anything to connect the drives in the enclosure or does that come with enclosures? my 2 WD externals have the card attached? Would that need to be removed or replaced? I'm sorry for so many questions but I really could use help figuring out which enclosure to purchase and what if anything else I'll need to use these drives. If I can't use the IDE drives then I have an adapter kit I can try to remove the data with it. I'd like at least a 4 or 5 bay for the larger sized drives and will probably purchase an additional 3 to 5 TB drive to put in it as well. Please help?
