Hey,

I just put together a system using Gigabyte's x99P-sli motherboard with 2 1080ti's in SLI. The motherboard has am ATX4P connector, where the manual states "When two or more graphics cards are installed, we recommend that you connect the SATA power cable from the
power supply to the ATX4P connector to ensure system stability."

I'm using a Silverstone FT05 case, and the ATX4P connector is blocked by my PSU. I'm supplying each GPU with 2 PCIE power connections, and this isn't a single power cable with 2 plugs, but rather two separate cables, each plugged into it's own PCIE power socket on my PSU (1000W). I'm wondering if I can skip the ATX4P connection because each card is getting a lot of power from the PSU? Is the power that comes through the PCIE slot on my motherboard somehow routed differently than the power that comes into the GPU directly from my PSU, and therefore I need adequate power through my PCIE slots regardless of how much power I'm sending to the GPU's through their own power connectors?

Solution
With only 2 cards, it should be able to work without that connection. Most new cards take care not to use too much power from PCIe slot and rely on direct plugs from PSU instead.
