I need help purchasing or building a server for a small retail business. Planning to run Windows server 2012 and the company has 5-8 workstation and 3 printers. Purpose of the server is for running QuickBooks data file share/serve, and backups.

What kind of server do I need?(showing me pre built or parts list will help)
Do I need a redundant power supply or CPU in the server?
How likely/often is the server going to fail?
Should I use SSD or hard drives for storage?

I want something to be fast and dependable since all workstation will connect to the server and use QuickBooks simultaneously. I also want to prevent the company to be paused if the server is down for whatever reason.

There will be 1 or 2 user that has to work on QuickBooks at home. Not often and probably not at the same time.

My price range is $800-$1200.
Any feedback will be appreciated.
Thanks

Hi and welcome to Tom's forum.

On this case I think that could be better for you go with a cloud product like Amazon or Google. The server (real server) for your needs is around 2500-2600 USD and we do know how much storage do you need plus you also will need at least a good UPS (3KVA around 1300 USD) and something to keep the server in a good temperature with all day operation (around 1300 USD)
