Asus Z270E USB ports stop working when Windows starts

Hi all,

I built a new PC and as the title already implies, after installing the chipset driver and all other ASUS drivers, I restart the PC and none of my USB ports work anymore.

I tried everything I could find online but none of them helped. Keyboard and mouse work perfectly fine in the BIOs but as soon as Windows loads up, the lights of my USB devices including the keyboard and mouse turn off and I don't even see a mouse cursor on the screen when the desktop shows up.

I formatted once and it worked fine until I installed the drivers again... I used the CD to install the drivers as well as ASUS website.

I'm completely helpless and frustrated at this point.

Anyone have an idea?

My specs are as follows:

- Intel i7-7700k 4.2 MHz
- ASUS Strix Z270E Gaming
- EVGA GTX 1080 Ti FTW3
- Corsair Vengeance LPX 32 GB DDR4 3200MHz
- NZXT Kraken x62
- Corsair HX750i Platinum
- Crucial MX300 750 GB SSD
- Seagate Barracuda 3 TB HDD

USB peripherals:

- Corsair Strafe RGB
- Corsair M65 Pro RGB
- Corsair Polaris
- Razer Nostromo

OS: Windows 10 64-bit

Thanks in advance!

Solution
Well, after trying everything possible and realising that there is absolutely no real solution online, I decided that it must be the motherboard and returned it.

I now replaced it with the Z270F and everything works flawlessly.

Thanks to everyone who tried to help!
So it seems like one of the drivers is doing the mess. In this case, solutions is simple, even if time consuming: install drivers one by one, restarting comp after each installation. That way you will find which driver is causing problem.

That's the problem, DRagor. I wanted to try exactly that but after formatting and loading Windows for the first time, Windows automatically installs everything and when I restarted without having installed anything myself, the USB ports stopped working again. So, it might even be something Windows is installing. Is there any way to stop Windows from installing drivers automatically?

Lutfij, thank you. I will look into that.

My temporary solution is Windows 7. I formatted again and everything works perfectly fine on Windows 7. I feel like I went back to stone age though and prefer Windows 10, so I'm hoping updating the BIOs will help. I will report on it, but please keep your suggestions coming. Thanks!

The only thing you can do is to physically disconnect your comp from net. There is a chance (albeit low I must admit) that Windows will not have drivers it automatically installs on the disk, and when not connected it will not install them.
Idea #2: maybe your Windows installation disk has corrupted files. Might be worth trying making new disk.
Idea #3: using USB to PS2 to connect your mouse to PS2 port, so you could at least check the Device Manager for any errors.
