Hi!

I'd like to upgrade my PC that has the following specs:

CPU: i7 3820@ 4.2Ghz with evo cooler
Motherboard: Asrock x79 Extreme 4
Chase: Thermaltake Overseer with 4x 20cm fan
RAM: Corsair Vengance 16gb
GPU: 2x GTX 970
PSU: Corsair 850
HDD: 1TB
SSD: 128GB
Monitor resolution: dual monitors
- 2560x1400
- 1920x1080

I streamed games for 1 year but whenever I try to stream nowadays I get bluescreen (Win10). I guess it's because of the temps, tho when I stress test my PC it works well.

Anyway, I decided to upgrade my PC but I'm not sure where to start. I'd like to buy a mid/high, up-to-date CPU but the socket is different than the newer CPUs. Therefore I might need to change my motherboard too?
Should I buy a better CPU with this socket even though it's not the newest socket? Or should I go for the new sockets with a new Motherboard/CPU?

Price is also a big factor that's why I'd like to achieve the best value for the best price which is also a good choice for the future if I need to upgrade again.

Mainly I use my PC for graphic/video editing also for 3Ds Max and games (Overwatch/Player's Unknown Battlegrounds). My aim is to get a durable/stable system that has solid FPS while streaming and when playing competitively OW.

Thank you in advance!

Best regards,
Tom

I would personally not spend money for a cooler, the one that comes with 1700 is fine and will...

You should tell your budget for upgrade, because your CPU and GPU are pretty good. If you want to ugprade your CPU u will have to go for new motherboard and DDR4 RAM. If you have 500-600 $ to throw only for CPU upgrade then go for it. You need at least GTX 1080/1080 ti for noticeable difference so + 500-$

If you stream a lot then ryzen 1600 or better would be ideal. Your 970 sli performance is between 1070 and 1080, so only 1080 ti will be noticeable upgrade.

Oh sorry. My budget is 700-800 $. I'm pretty happy with the two 970s so I wouldn't change that for a while.
I tried tons of OBS settings and even though my fps is good in game OBS says that I need to lower my settings because of my CPU. It seems like it is the weak component of the system even though it's an i7.
Also should I go for an AIO water cooler for cpu?

Thank you for the quick answer!

I would personally not spend money for a cooler, the one that comes with 1700 is fine and will let u to overclock your CPU to around 3.8-3.9 easily. But if you want achieve 4.0+ GHZ and want something more quiet then you could look for good massive air cooler or AIO water cooler. However its not worth it performace/$ wise.

Thank you very much for your help! I like that mobo a lot! I assume i might need a nice chasse for this rgb beauty. I wonder if i can get the XSplit bonus if i buy this from a retailer here in Hungary.

Thanks again!

All the best,
Tom
