So I tried upgrading from AMD Athlon II (X2 I think, I carelessly forgot the full name) to AMD FX 4300 on an ASRock N68C-S UCC motherboard, and the screen just wouldn't turn on. I tried switching the CPUs back, but the screen stayed black anyways. The thing is i forgot to check BIOS before upgrading. Am I screwed now? Would appreciate any help

Vacuuming could build up static which could damage electrical components; so it is possible.

The sticky essentially identifies the most common causes of a PC not booting up, so it could be a number of factors from faulty CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard and PSU. (I think that's all of them.) To find out which it is would require another similar PC in which to verify which component isn't working, which is impractical at the best of times.

Wow, I didn't even bother checking that, I thought the socket type was pretty much the only thing that mattered. Thanks for the info.

As for the old one, it does turn on, all fans are working, just no video output, and I checked every point in the list you sent (thanks again by the way). The thing is, I vacuumed the area around the proccessor after removing the heat sink; could I have just accidentally fried it with static? And, as such, does no video output issue relate to CPU in some way?

Thanks in advance
