recently upon starting games, the screen will completely freeze and often go black, meanwhile audio will still loop or continue to play normally in the background. there is no way to escape from this screen other than shutting down the pc. the only way i have been able to bypass this was by reinstalling my GPU Driver from Nvidia's Geforce Experience. therefor, i think that this has something to do with the drivers not operating properly.
it is also worth mentioning that i have been using my GPU (ASUS Strix 970) for several months in two different builds, and my pc was working completely fine up until just a few days ago. for these reasons, i also do not believe this to be a hardware issue.

When posting a thread of troubleshooting nature, it's customary to pass on your full system's specs inclusive of your OS. Please list them as:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

On another note, it's good practice to use DDU to uninstall your previous drivers and reinstalling the latest found off Nvidia's/Asus's site. It might even be worth a minute or two to see if a previous driver revision averts the issue.
