I need help to see if i have chosen the best components for the new build i am planning. I use my computer for app development Xcode/Android studio (so yes this will have OSX but also windows 10), i also do auto cad inventor/3D max/unity/Blender for my school work. Finally i use my computer for gaming: Battlefield 1/4/3, Overwatch, GTA etc.

Current planned parts:
CPU: i5 7600k or i7 7700k
CPU Cooler: Corsair H55
MOBO: ASUS ROG strix 270I mini itx
GPU: GTX 1070 (please suggest one)
RAM: G.Skill - Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 Memory
PSU: Corsair - RMx 550W
CASE: Cougar QBX

I fairly happy with this choice of components so far but am unsure if i will befit enough to spend the extra £100 on i7 over the i5. I also have no idea which 1070 is best or if i should be going for a completely different card.

Currently this Build specs aprox: £ 1200 (i5) 1300 (i7) (APROX) i wouldn't like to go much different from these price points (unless it is lower, but feel free to justify spending more).

right i think i will go with an NZXT s340 as it looks simple and clean but is quite a bit cheaper than the phanteks case no matter how nice it is :(

And i guess u are kind of making me spend more money but i want this to be good and last a while and I'm not going super budget here like my last build i will just save a bit more for better stuff.

So i think i will get an MATX for the additional expansion space available, an air cooler and EVGA 1070. Also moving to 32gb of RAM instead of 16gb.

Also thank you for ur input on the 2 ssd idea wasn't 100% sure i was on the right track with that plan how much do i gain getting m.2 ssd over normal 2.5inch ssd...

okay thanks for that input have found a thread with a list of PSUs that will fit but do u have ideas about if i5 vs i7, is the i7 worth the extra money and also what GTX 1070?

You could swap out the case for a Phanteks Enthoo Evolv itx and do away with the PSU length restriction...? I would ask you go for air cooling at this point since the H55 would be more expensive than a Cryorig H7 or a Be Quiet! Shadow Rock cooler.

As for a GPU, you have access to Palit, Gainward and EVGA. I'd suggest getting something from EVGA ;) My colleague would know much better about it.

i have looked at the phanteks case and i am sort of considering it i will decide that at a later date. On the topic of cooling i picked the h55 because i thought i could then run the fans @ lower RPM their for the system would be quieter or would i have similar noise levels with an air cooler.

Be Quiet!'s cooler are akin to Noctua coolers I would've asked that you look at the Noctua NH-U9S but that would give you minimal overclocking headroom and compared to the Be Quiet! Shadow Rock 2 cooler, that would easily fit inside the Phanteks case and also keep your overclocking endeavors in check. Personally I avoid AIO's.

I noticed one other thing, you should be looking at DDR4-3200Mhz rams as a minimum since your Z270 platform can and will go to those speeds for the ram. Since you render, I'd ask you to get as much ram as you can. I had a friend get 32GB's(a 2x16GB DDR4 kit) because he, like me, renders using Vray w/ Sketchup. Being in the UK, you have easy access to SK Hynix's SL308/SC300 SSD's theya re a good buy but if you have the funds I'd suggest a Samsung 960 Evo NVMe SSD.

...and yes for your productivity reasons alone, I'd too suggest the i7, period!

Any suggestion which ram at those speeds? https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/kXbkcf/gskill-memory-f43200c16d32gvk maybe this? Also i was thinking actually 2 of those samsung 950 evo drives (one for each OS, will this work all good?). Finally now we are talking about 32 GBs of memory would i be better moving up to M ATX or even an ATX build? Space is not a massive problem i liked the idea of a compact build but am not set on it. ATX case: https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/Computer-Components/quiet-SILENT-BASE-800-Computer-Case-Window/B010Q80XRA/ref=pd_sbs_147_4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=AZWMKW8V3R17B8C8HX2R

This or this.

Having two SSD's with an OS on each is a wise idea!

I didn't state this but I built a system for a friend/student that looked like this:
i7-6700K
EVGA Z170 Stinger w/an add-on Intel 7260NGW card.
G.Skill Trident Z DDR4 2x16GB 3200MHz kit
Noctua NH-U9S
EVGA GTX1060 FTW+ Gaming 6GB
EVGA Hadron Air
^ that was built for AutoCAD and overall a system for architectural drawings/output.

If you want to move to an matx build, you could actually think about upping the ante and look for a case that would suite an office environment provided you have clients come over to see your progress/productivity. On that note, you could look at the Phanteks Enthoo Evolv(matx) TG which fits very nice in any professional environment.

Are you sure I'm not making you spend more money? :/

So the current build:
CPU:i7 7700k
CPU Cooler: Noctua - NH-U9B
MOBO: ASRock - Z270M Pro4 Micro ATX
GPU: EVGA - GeForce GTX 1070 8GB FTW Gaming
RAM: Corsair - Vengeance LPX 16GB (2 x 8GB) DDR4-3200 Memory (The mobo has 4 RAM slots so will upgrade to 32gb in the near future).
PSU: SeaSonic - EVO Edition 620W Fully Modular
Case: NZXT S340
Storage: Samsung 850 evo x2 or 950 evo x2. Also 2 WD blue 1tb drives (i already have these tho)

Thanks for all the help so far by the way
