You will be better off with ddr4 and I know you seem kind of p@#$$& off but how about something like this:

an up to date build that supports ddr3 because i dont want to splash out tons of money on ram which ive already got

I get what you're trying to do. But if you want a DDR3-supported CPU and Motherboard, you'd be looking at older-generation builds (e.g., Intel 4th-gen Haswell, some very rare Intel 6th-gen Skylake boards, or the weaker/end-of-life AMD AM3/FM2 sockets) - and they are not up-to-date anymore.

You don't have to splash out tons of money on RAM alone if you are willing to spend money on a new motherboard and new cpu. If you can provide a budget you are willing to spend for this upgrade, maybe we can suggest you some up to date parts/components within your spending limits.

i5 6500??? i could build a faster build than that with a £300 budget

You're asking for suggestions then tell that you can do better? What's the point of you making this thread then?

The i5-6500 is a great price/performance gaming CPU. Yeah the locked i7 is faster, but, considering you "don't want to splash out tons of money" for minimal gain in performance: http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-6700-vs-Intel-Core-i5-6500/3515vs3513.

You could get the unlocked i5-6500K (~£200+), but costs of the Z170 mobos that support DDR3 RAM (because you don't want to spend for new RAMs) will jack up the cost above your £300 budget.

So, if you can do better, then enlighten us with what you have in mind, instead of asking "for suggestions".
