About two days ago, my computer would randomly shut off during games. I had recently put in another stick of 8GB ram to make 16 GB and it worked for a day. Then when I played a game, the system randomly shut off. I downloaded hardware monitors and monitored the temperature of the GPU and CPU while playing and the GPU would not get higher than 65C and the CPU would not get higher than 55C.

I did a clean install of my graphics drivers, ran memetest86 and it found no errors. I let it run for six hours and it did two passes.

After that, I turned off my PC and went to bed. In the morning, I decided to reseat the memory and boot it up. It wouldn't boot but the PSU fan would turn on and spin loudly. A red light on the motherboard turned on as well, but the CPU fan and the case fans did not turn on. Now I can't get it to boot at all.

I'm thinking it's a problem with the power supply or memory. But I ran memtest with both sticks installed, and it came up with no errors. At this point, I'm thinking I should just unplug everything and build the PC again.

I did that this morning, and it still did not boot. The PSU was properly plugged in and the old RAM was reseated and inserted. I pressed the power and the PSU fan kicked on loudly but nothing else did. A red LED was on on the motherboard, but that light is always on when the computer booted up before. But the CPU fans and case fans didn't start and the power supply was running.

No, I'm not able to get into the Bios at all. I've looked up how to reset my cmos battery, but my motherboard box didn't come with a jumper cap to cover the switch. Should I remove the battery, wait a little bit, then put it back in or should I use a paperclip to touch the pins together?

Okay, I reset the CMOS battery by taking it out, waiting a minute and putting it back in. After doing this, I made sure all the power connectors to the CPU and PSU were properly plugged in. I felt one that was a little lopsided and corrected it. I plugged it in and it booted up! It went to the bios screen first since i cleared the cmos but it rebooted regularly.

I did this with only one stick of RAM installed and I'm going to keep it that way. If i want to upgrade my RAM again, I'll buy a compatible pair.

As for the restarts, it hasn't so far. I left a game running for about two and a half hours and monitored my temperatures while doing so. It didn't shut off. I played another game and it stayed on. I think the combination of resetting the cmos and checking the power connectors worked! Thank you for your help. Here's hoping it continues working.

Glad we got you sorted out then. It goes without saying, but if you have any more questions let us know! :D
