Hello, I have an HP Compaq 6005 Pro Small Form Factor desktop PC with an HP Pavillion LED 1080p monitor. My computer has 8gb of RAM, 2TB SATA 2 hard drive that only has 7% used, an AMD Phenom II X2 B59 processor (3.40Ghz) 64 bit, Windows 10 pro. I currently have a ATI Radeon HD 4200. I'm not satisfied with gaming, the card isn't powerful enough for gaming or editing videos as i am a youtuber. I want to know if i can get a better card that will run smoothly with gaming (at LEAST 30fps) but easily fit in my case and motherboard that is under $100.

Solution
okay, if I had that case, I would measure the length between the slot hole and farthest(length), and the slot to top of case (height) and let us know the dimensions inside the case.

@dontlistentome : what are the dimensions of your 1030 video card you mentioned ?
It looks like that computer has a 240W power supply. I'd say the Nvidia 1030 is probably the most powerful card under $100 that might work with that PSU. It uses 30W, plus 65W for your CPU, so it's possible that 240W is enough.

As far as framerate, it depends on the games. You aren't going to be playing Battlefield 1 on this, or GTA V. You have an older dual core, so esports is more reasonable. CSGO, League of Legends, Dota 2, maybe some Overwatch, those kinds of games.

First of all, the games I'm interested in playing are older ones like Skyrim, Minecraft etc. And one more question, I was also thinking about upgrading to a 500watt power supply, would that enlarge my selection in gpu?

the problem with SFF cases is finding a slim card... and those are only fit in certain models.
the 1030 isn't a slim card design so I doubt it will fit inside the case itself.
but
MSI Radeon RX 460 @ newegg.com for 93$ Slim card... is designed for it
or
there is a GIGABYTE GeForce GTX 1050 OC Low Profile 2GB Video Card @ Newegg.com for 115$ but it requires 300w, but uses 75W so may a be solution.

BTX power supplies (like yours) are pretty rare in anything higher than 240w.

the problem is you cannot fit anything but a BTX or power supply of similar dimensions, most 500w are ATX and wont fit.

I appreciate you're help. So the 460 will fit in my case and motherboard?

That's the problem with SFF computers, your choices in upgrades are limited. The only reason I didn't mention cards like the 460 and 1050 is that they will use the full 75W the motherboard should be able to put out. 75W plus 65W for the CPU, that's 140W which is substantially more than a 1030 would use. I don't know which 1030s other people are looking at, but there's no way a 460 is smaller in any dimension.

Lastly, the older games you mention should be okay, although Minecraft is CPU limited. The 4200 is total garbage, so a new card WILL help in Minecraft but only until you reach the limits of how well that dual core can handle the game.
