Hi,

Video cards come in two heights, "full size" and "low profile". When you said it "didnt cover the entire slot." do you mean it plugged into the PCIe slot but was too low to reach the top of the slot where you screw in the top of the bracket? Or when you plugged it in it was too tall for the slot to fit correctly?

Looking at your PC based on clutchc's link it looks like you do need a low profile card. Can you post the model # of the video card you got ?

Point two: This is a WEAK video card. If you want to game you likely need something a bit stronger, Here is a gaming video card hierarchy. http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/gpu-hierarchy,4388.html

Point 3: You have 2GB of memory and a very slow CPU in that PC. Not sure you want to be spending money to upgrade it. There are many pieces you'd need to replace to get that PC strong enough to really game.

UPDATE: I think I know what's happening. The PCIe slot in your PC is a x16 slot. The video card you bought uses a x8 PCIe connector. They do work fine together, and the video card will only fill the first part of the PCIe slot and leave the rest sort of hanging out he back. this is normal and expected and will work. (for those other than the OP, here is an example of a PCIe x8 gt 730 http://www8.hp.com/us/en/products/oas/product-detail.html?oid=8871761 )

The card. Was physically installed, the fan came on but the computer was giving me trouble actually using it as main monitor source. Have somwe idea to why? If the 8 should work to the 16?

[so if the card installs correctly and should work with my pc how do i get the computer to recognize it? it came with an installation disk and when i try to run it tells me that its not compatable for some reason. how do i get the card to actually work?

Hi,

Couple of possibilities:

1. Make sure the cable from your monitor is attached to teh video card. The cable used to be attached to the motherboard, you need to move it to the video card. (do this with PC powered off, do not switch video cables when the PC might be powered up).

2. Make sure the BIOS is set to AUTO for video, not set to "integrated" so that it will use the video card. The easiest way to test this is to move the cable from your monitor the the MB conenctor (not he video card) and see if the image appears.

3. Power off PC and remove video card. Move video cable to MB. Make sure PC still works using old integrated video. If so reinstall the video card and move the video cable back to the Video card. See if it works now. (this is called reseating the video card).

Post what happens. good luck.
