MSE Causing FPS Drops While Gaming?

So I'm trying to find the reason behind my fps drops while gaming.

MSI 970a G43 Mobo
AMDFX 8350
Nvidia Geforce 970 GTX
8GB DDR3 RAM
Windows 7 Professional

I've been through a few steps already as far as trying to find the reason. Watching HWMonitor (Everything seems fine on there) and turning my power settings to high performance (couldn't notice any real difference.).

So I played a game of Heroes of the Storm, which isnt a very stressful game on my cpu, with my malwarebytes closed and MSE real time protection turned off and it seemed better actually. But that was just one game that I played.

Just curious to if anyone knows if MSE can be causing these FPS drops and hiccups while I'm playing. I've read that other anti virus' have "gaming modes" unlike MSE which doesn't. And if it is causing fps drops and hiccups should I turn it off? or maybe look into another AV?

Voltage regulator module. 125W CPUs struggle as a result when the motherboard isn't a 990fx or a few of the better 970 motherboards. A 125W can be technically run on this motherboard, but throttling is a very real risk and it's very possible this is your problem. To see if this is the problem, the best quick way would be to downclock the CPU to the level of a 8320 (3.5 Ghz).

Any sort of solution you think? I also dont know what VRM means.

I have had this build for a little over 2 years now. You think its dangerous to have this cpu on this mobo? Ticking time bomb? How much do you think I'd lose if I downclocked, as far as performance? Also don't know how to downclock a cpu.

Not likely dangerous, but your VRMs are very likely to get hot -- they're sparse and without heat sinks -- and that can shorten the life of the motherboard considerably. You can downclock to 8320 levels in the BIOS or using AMD Overdrive. You'll lose some performance, but if this *is* the problem, the PC will be more usable overall. And if doesn't fix the problem, then we look elsewhere at your issue.

I had my build put into another tower a couple months ago and the guy who did it for me said he had a hard time getting my mobo to line up with the stand offs bc my mobo was a little warped so it sounds like to me that we are on to something. Now I gotta figure out how to downclock in my bios.

Yah, I'm lost on how to underclock correctly.

Found out how to do this is the BIOS but on another post I made, someone is telling me to change my voltages too. What do you think of that?

Question from Graveboot : "Is It Safe To Underclock My CPU?"

Also someone else told me this haha.

"ok,well after a little looking it seems this board will support up to 125w tdp,so in theory your cpu should be all right.have you checked temperatures?"

I've merged your posts together and I am giving you your ONE and only warning. Do not make passive aggressive posts like this towards folks that are helping you. DSzymborski has a real job or some other hobbies that he likely is doing other than sitting at his PC waiting to answer your question, we are all volunteers here helping people when we have time. You need to PATIENTLY wait for an answer.

That doesn't mean continually replying to your own thread to bump it up, or starting a second, third, and fourth thread and cross posting it back and forth. Next time I'm going to just shut your threads down. Keep it going and you will be banned.

Finally if your problem is not solved, do not click the Pick as solution button, since you clicked it already, people aren't going to look at your thread anymore. I suggest clicking it again to remove it, so people know you still need help.

Roger that 10-4.

What do you think of my situation? You think I should try underclocking my cpu? And if yes should I lower the voltages too?

What I think is, that motherboard is known to be a problem one with 125w CPUs, despite MSI saying its compatible. Your PSU isn't good either.

You're probably not going to break anything, but its never going to be stable so whats the point. Underclocking and lowering the voltages is a bandaid on a bullethole, that CPU is already underpowered, why not choke it while you're at it. It will work though, at least as a temporary solution..

I can tell you with complete certainty this is the problem. And my 2 cents, sell whatever parts you can while you still can, and replace it with whatever you can afford new either an Intel i3, or a AMD Ryzen R3 when it comes out. The FX platform is dead, and replacing the motherboard on your system without getting a better CPU is a huge waste of money.

you know what, try underclocking and see if you like it.upgrading really depends on what you want from your pc.there are a lot of hardcore gamers on this site that will tell you that what you have isnt worth dealing with.we have the intel camp and the amd camp, and in a way they are right.not dissing them in any way.but there are other factors.does your pc do what you want it to?is it within your budget?me,im not a gamer so an fx6300 and a 970 aura is more than i need.i just like to screw around with overclocking.to each their own.

Thanks for your input.

Also didn't know it was against the rules to start multiple threads. I was never trying to bump my thread either by replying to it. I'm just trying to figure this whole thing out.

Sorry.

Yes it does what I want it do to, just these hiccups and fps drops are frustrating sometimes.

Should I mess with my voltages too?
