Here's the deal, I'm buying this laptop next week.

Acer Aspire E5- 575G- 51VA
15.6-inch Laptop
Core i5-7200U | 2.7Ghz | Dual Core | 3MB cache
8GB DDR4 | 2400MHz
Nvidia GeForce 940MX 2GB
Maximum Power Supply Wattage 65 W

This is a basic entry level laptop (i hope so) and i wanna know if i can overclock this laptop safely.
Also, is overclocking worth it?

Thanks in advance. You guys always help me out.

In that case, it's probably true, it would most likely cut the battery life in half and cause the fan to make more noise than you want.
You would likely not get a big performance benefit out of it either. (5% at most, in optimal conditions while plugged in)

since entry level laptops lack in hardware anyway, you would get that 5% on top of.. what? 20? 30? fps so.. 1.5 to 2 fps more?

I would never get a laptop with the goal of overclocking it to get better performance.
overclocking needs more power
more power needs more cooling
laptops usually lack in both power and cooling
entry level laptops are usually not overclockable anyway
high end multi-thousand gaming laptops likely are but... they are in totally different price range.

so.. overclock safely? most likely not
able to overclock at all? possibly not.

That is just my opinion though.

When i contacted the store, they said i can overclock. So i'm just wondering if it's true.

I don't think that processor is overclockable. The video chip likely is.
