Hello,

I'm maintaining my dads old PC, running an Athlon X2 64 on an Asus AM2 board.

In the long run I will replace the motherboard and CPU but for now there is really no reason, since the PC is used for office work. I have replaced a failing power supply.

The CPU still gets pretty hot, 60C, and I was wondering if there is a decent budget CPU cooler that might fit in well. Since I like fiddling around with builds I don't mind paying paying a few pounds more if it's good quality and allows me to use the cooler in possible other builds once I update.

I'm thinking of something like the Arctic Alpine 64, since I'm not sure if I want a significantly larger cooler for such a PC but I'm wondering if there is something similar with better quality. Or should it be doing fine?

I suppose the largest problem causing the heat is the old thermal paste which needs replacing, nevertheless adding a better cooler seems to be a decent option.

Looking forward to any thoughts.

Solution
The back plate isnt much of an issue. Most cases have a hole cutout on the motherboard plate. Just usally requires taking off the cases right side panel. Here is a video of how to remove the old stock bracket and install the cm212 right in the case.
