I'm trying to debug bad RAM performance ... particularly latency

I've just built a new system, and am setting a performance baseline before I start overclocking. I'm seeing some very strange results with the memory tests.

  • ■ Ryzen 7 1700 (running stock at 3.0 GHz)
    ■ ASRock AB350 Pro4 (UEFI version P2.50)
    ■ Corsair Vengeance LPX DDR4 (2 x 8GB) 2666Mhz RAM (CMK16GX4M2A2666C16W)
    ■ the RAM is installed in slots 2 and 4 (A2 and B2)

Looking at CPU-Z, the RAM seems to be running to spec...

When I run the Memory Mark benchmark (Performance Test 9.0), I get a memory latency score of 83. The average score for this model of RAM is 28. My score is in the 5th percentile.

Complete results (comparing to benchmarks for the same model RAM)

  • ■ database operations: 65th percentile
    ■ memory read uncached: 87th percentile
    ■ memory threaded: 98th percentile
    ■ memory read cached: 78th percentile
    ■ memory write: 71st percentile
    ■ memory latency: 5th percentile

This model of RAM is on the QVL (qualified vendor list) for this motherboard. Although the chart does call out a specific of the RAM (v5.29). I'm not sure how I would know what version my RAM is.

Any suggestions on what I should try next?

Have you considered, that RAM benchmarks don't care what the rest of tested setup is? I would expect the same ram can have very different results in Intel builds and Ryzen builds. Although indeed 5% score seems out of place, especially compared to the rest of tests.
What next? Probably more benchmarks, to see if there is some real problem with your RAM.
