ASRock Fatal1ty AB350 Gaming K4 MOBO still won't run RAM at 2933 MHZ

I have a Ryzen 1600x processor and I knew that getting the RAM speeds up to where they're supposed to be was hit or miss until the new bios updates came out, the AEGA or whatever it's called.

Well, my particular motherboard was updated literally just yesterday and I installed it. I have 3000 MHZ G.Skillz Ripjaws 8gb memory sticks, 2 of them total. The motherboard has 4 slots for it, I have them in A2 and B2 slots, which I believe are the right places to put them. I know I won't get exactly 3000 Mhz, but 2933 is close enough, but even after the update it's still defaulting to running the RAM at 2133 or so.

Before the update, loading the XMP profile just wouldn't work. But after the update, the XMP options have seemed to increase and change, and at first it seemed like it would work. I loaded XMP, set the RAM speed to be 3000 and saved and restarted. I immediately went back into BIOS and saw that it was telling me that my RAM was indeed at 2933 MHZ, so I was really happy for a minute.

I saved and let it restart again, and then it restarted twice and now my RAM is back down to 2133.

What the heckadoodledoo?

I guess ASRock have officially released there then, still waiting for MSI to release theres for my board.

This new bios isnt as simple as just loading XMP profile, it all needs to me manually configured, so what you need to do is download Thaiphoon burner from here, just get the free edition: http://www.softnology.biz/files.html then read one of your sticks of ram.

Once its finished reading it, click the report button, scroll to the bottom, and write down all of your timings, sub timings too.
Now reboot to the bios, and manually enter all timings and sub timings manually, set command rate to 2T, voltage to 1.35v for memory and speed to 2933mhz, now save and exit, should work.

You have to remember, AMd wants to run your ram at a command rate of 1T at full speed, but your ram wasnt actually built to run at those speeds, it was meant to do those speeds at 2T

I was about to come back and say yea, didn't work for me either. I wrote down all the numbers from the XMP profile just like in the screenshot you posted. However my XMP profile was pretty much identical to those settings already. And I have a different view for voltage, it's confusing. I'm honestly not sure where VDD is because nothing in my XMP or bios says VDD. Nor do I know where the command rate is. I've looked around and I couldn't see it anywhere or anything at a 1T setting.

Also here's a screenshot from my Thaiphoon thing and I'm wondering as a side note, is this thing saying my RAM is actual 2133 MHZ sticks and not 3000 MHZ sticks like they're supposed to be? Or is it just saying they're running at 2133 right now.

Also here's what the bios looked like before this latest update. We have more RAM settings now, but still not matching up perfectly with what the program had and the voltage section remained unchanged.

EDIT: Ok so I just went back into BIOS to look around and I saw my BIOS was telling me I am, in fact, running at the 2933 MHZ for Ram. I was confused. So I came back to WIndows and now all of a sudden everything is telling me I'm at that speed, whereas just a minute ago on the previous restart after initializing those settings, it seemed everything read it as still at 2133 MHZ.

So I dunno what just happened but it seems to be working now. Thanks!

Wheres the extra 26 registers in your bios ? thats just the 5 basic timings page, but glad its working anyway.

Somewhere, you should have advanced memory timings, I cant find the page right now which shows which sub timings are added to the bios, maybe ASRock have not fully opened them up on the B350 board yet ?

Your memory run at 2933?

It was running at 2933, but then I started getting readonly memory errors and FQL not equal errors all over the place, so I turned off the XMP profile and it went back down to 2133.

I also noticed that the AMD Ryzen Master program allows me to overclock memory that way, though I wasn't trying to. Dunno if that was messing with it or not, I didn't change settings through that thing. Only use it for overclocking my CPU because doing it through the BIOS didn't work when I tried, it wouldn't boot :p

Here's some screenshots of what our RAM settings screen looks like. You'll hopefully see why I'm confused, as not everything lines up with what you guys tell me. Like for example, Over and Over on google searches and here I've seen people say "increase the DRAM Voltage" and I literally have no options that say that, so I'm always guessing as to which voltage option is correct. The above screenshot shows the voltage options I have, and these below screenshots show our new timings settings and whatnot after the recent BIOS update.

ON THE BRIGHT SIDE while doing this, I found the command timing option, so I did that. I'm booted up again under 2933 MHZ ram, but I don't know if it's stable now or not, the options in these pictures are what I'm currently booting up with too. So *shrug*

EDIT: No, it's not stable. Mere minutes into Overwatch and it crashed, this time with a new error "Memory Problems" or something vague. No specific error code. I turned off XMP again.

Side note - I thought the bios update would simply make the RAM read at a more correct speed. Isn't this XMP profile stuff what I'd be doing to overclock the RAM? I feel like I shouldn't have to be messing with this to get the right speed :\

I've since tried more timings options, such as 15-18-18-36-56, I've tried turning Gear Down off (which wouldn't even boot my system so that didn't work at all), and nothing will keep it stable so far. Here's a screenshot of what ThaiPhoon told me I should be using in my settings. Does anyone have any ideas? These are the settings I've used and they just don't seem to work.

I'm sorry to keep continually replying to myself, but I wanted to do one last reply. It appears that I finally have gotten my RAM stable at 2933 MHZ, as it hasn't crashed in quite some time, even after a couple hours of Overwatch and stress tests.

I dunno why it says my CPU is running so hot, Ryzen Master tells me it's only 45C right now, I have no problems with temperature so far. But yea, those timings listed there seem to have worked out for me.

I have the G.Skills Ripjaws V Series RAM at 3000MHZ C15. Just in case anyone else out there stumbles across this post and is having similar problems with that memory or this motherboard, maybe this will help you. I'll edit if I have more problems.

Hey zack...I have the 1600, I was wondering what the full list of timings were that you finally went with that worked? I know this post is from back in June...just going on a whim...

It actually ended up not being as stable as I thought. It was for a little bit, it behaved itself real well for awhile. But eventually it started happening again.

My guess is that the problem lies in me not having RAM that is specifically tested for the MOBO. I think if I did, it'd work correctly. However, I haven't had the funds yet to get new RAM and switch it out and test it.

Thanks for the quick response. I may be in the exact scenario as you..lol. I can't get mine to run at any speed other that stock. Same Gskill as you too.
