All I am doing is watching videos on an external USB hard drive and my free space keeps on going down day by day. I try CCleaner and a get few mb's of space on the laptop HD. See the TreeSize screen capture.

As suspected.

You have the OS on a 32GB drive. Not part of a hybrid.
Initially, that 32GB may have been simply a cache for one of the other drives. Somehow it got disconnected from the cache concept, and now it is an individual drive.

Even worse, 9.5GB is carved off for a recovery partition. Leaving only 19.4GB for the actual OS.
Obviously, that is too small, no matter what you do with it. Just using the system will cause the space to be consumed and released.

So....
Either somehow remarry that back with its original HDD as a cache
or
Just dump that teeny 32GB SSD. Install the actual OS on one of the HDD's.

How was the system configured initially? Did you build this, or is it a prebuilt from somewhere?

31GB Hybrid HDD but 19 available because of a recovery partition.

This remaining space has steadily decreased to the point where I have only 536 KB left on C.

I have uninstalled all extraneous applications, run CCleaner frequently, don't download anything. I just watch previously downloaded videos put on an external portable USB drive. I watch them frequently because that is all I can do at this point.

I can only login to Firefox occasionly to explore what I can do to free space.

How can this happen? Where on C is the large space being filled?
