hdmi splitter wont detect or extend to tv only duplicate

i have a monitor and a television. i bought a hdmi splitter so i can extend to my tv. but it just duplicate to my tv. and my pc doens't detect my tv as a monitor. i even updated my monitors drivers.

That is exactly what an HDMI splitter will do.
The PC sees one and only one cable/video out. Duplicate, not Extend.

You need to connect the monitor and the TV to two individual ports on the GPU or motherboard.

So...what parts do you have?
