CPU Cooling Issue

Hi all,

I am having some problems with CPU Cooling.

My day started with my PC blue screening a couple times with the error WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR which i know is down to the CPU.

So i checked the temps and realised my CPU was sitting at 60c idle. I decided to give my cooler a clean out and apply new thermal paste. (I have a 5820k @4.5Ghz 1.35v and Corsair H100i GTX AIO which is refurbished).

After doing so I checked temps again and they went back down about 35 - 40c idle for a couple of hours.

But now, the idle temps have risen again to about 55c and I cant even run cinebench as the temps fly straight up to over 90c which crashes my PC.

I am looking for some help on the issue, im thinking it might be my thermal paste which is fairly cheap (Akasa 455). I have had it a while and i keep it in my room which gets quite warm on a daily basis or could it be the pump in my AIO?

Please help, I would ideally not like to fork out for a new cooler but will if I have too ....

Thanks

Solution

no its a sealed unit so no air can get in there

i would replace the thermal paste

and double check the block mounts flat just to be safe

usually you can check that--if your case has a cpu cut out like most

look at the rear of the cpu socket--ie behind motherboard

look at the 4 screw holes your block is mounted through

and see if all the screw ends come through the same distance

Okay well I bought the AIO early last year so it has been in operation for a little over a year. I was thinking it would be AIO as it is refurbished as well!

its not just how tight they are that matters

its if you dont tighten them gradually in a X pattern sometimes this causes the block not to sit flat

but if it worked ok for a year then the pump is most likely

you should be able to monitor the pump speed with that corsair to see if the pumps actually spinning or not

yeah it was working fine and I do like to do it in X pattern thats the way I have always done it.

When I look in the Corsair software, I have the pump on full rpm and both fans are spinning as well. They seem to be working but not nearly as well as they used too.

So I just ran cinebench again and my temps rocket up to 90+ and a blue screen.

I have always been able to run cinebench on this OC, I guess that does mean pump isnt working like it should.

Would you agree?

then its not your pump

and its a sealed unit so shouldnt be a lack of coolant issue

so only leaves the mounting or the thermal paste

well in that case it would have to be the thermal paste because it was absolutely fine yesterday, the before and the day before that etc ...

It started blue screening as soon as I turned it on this morning and tried launching a game.

The thermal paste is use is https://www.scan.co.uk/products/akasa-ak-455-high-performance-thermal-compound-15g-syringe-24-w-mk-thermal-conductivity-for-cpu-gpu-

Me again :L ... I did everything you said, re-applied thermal paste, re-seated the pump making sure I went in an X pattern and my temps are still sitting near 60c and temps rocket up during cinebench.

This must surely mean my cooler isnt working properly?

I did some reading around last night and found another forum for people with AIO problems.

I found lots of people saying that a good way to check is testing the temp of the air coming out the radiator. I noticed that despite my cpu being at 60c, the air coming out of the radiator was cold!! So i am thinking my pump clearly isnt pushing the coolant to the radiator.

I'm not sure what else to try, there is not hot air leaving the radiator, think I will be calling quits and getting a new cooler unless you can suggest anything else?
