Will the 4 pin header on my GPU be enough to power two 120 mm fans?

My specs are to the left here under my name.

I'm planning on modding my XFX R9 390, by pulling off the fans and fan shroud and replacing it with two Noctua NF-F12 120mm fans run off of a splitter from the GPU header.

What I was proposing was to first use a GELID adapter off of the GPU header (4 pin mini to 4 pin reg PWM)

Then a noctua NA YC1 splitter that came with the Noctua fans

Then connect to the fans. Attaching the fans is kind of ghetto looking, but I don't care what it looks like - only that it works.

The only thing I'm wondering about is if the GPU header will provide enough juice to the two fans?

Solution
It should have no real issues. The stock cooler is most likely more power hungry than the Noctua fans.

If you are worried, You can get 12 volts from a LP4(Molex) or SATA cable. They sell adapters for this(made to allow the cpu header to run a few fans.).

The 12 volts would run the fans and the video card would provide the pwm for speed control.

What fans run on 5 volts? Most PC fans including Noctua's(listed in the first post) are 12 volts.

Different voltage could be an issue.

Thanks nukemaster,

I have a few molex and sata to 4 pin fan adapters. I also have a Design R4 case with fan voltage controll that'd work - 5V, 7V & 12V. I've run a splitter off of that and had it work on both 7 and 12V. The 5V setting doesn't provide enough juice to start even one of my fans. Throw in the Noctua Low Voltage adapters and there's a lot of options to run them off of the PSU @ 12 V ....

But I was more interested in running them off of the GPU header itself. But from what you've said it sounds like it shouldn't be an issue.

Thanks

12 volts fans on 5. fine(well the ones that start). 5 volt fans on 12, not so good.

The molex adapters are for pwn fans(not quite the same as the 5/7/12 adapters). they just replace the 12 volt line. Either way, Noctua fans are just not that hungry. You may have to adjust your fan speed profile if the card runs much cooler(or the fan may never speed up. this can be good for low noise).

I did run an all in one pump at 18 to see what it would do(do not ask. it lived).

It is a good thing you are using an AMD card. Some of the newer Nvidia cards do not control pwm fans very well. They are set with a rpm to PWM rate, so they speeds play all over on any fan that is not the stock one. This is an issue with my 1070, but not and issue with the older 670.
