I recently built a computer with a R7 240 and i5-7500 but choose not to buy a gpu due to the extreme prices. I noticed 2 months ago you could buy a cheap RX580 with 8GB of memory for only $200. Now it seems you will need to spend at least $275-$300 assuming your able to purchase it right when it comes back into stock. If anyone knows when the price will be back down to around 200 for a 8GB RX580 I would appreciate the information as I have a budget of 200 and want to be able to buy a 1060 or 580 in the future.

Nobody can tell when the prices will come down.
It will happen whenever mining etherium and similar currencies are no longer profitable, or when stocks can catch up.
The other option is something else coming along that is more viable for mining.

When that is, nobody can say.

I doubt that's the reason. AMD is losing sales to gamers due to the shortage, which will hurt them long term. ATM, it's the currency miners who are buying AMD cards as soon as they hit the market.

AMD cant just "make" more GPUs (the physical chip on the card). They are making as many as they can, they have been this whole time. Even if they had the capital to open up more assembly processes and lithography printing, it would take months if not years for them to come online.

Also, AMD isnt losing out on sales at all. Honestly its probably a relief for them that all their cards are being sold as fast as they can make them, when was the last time an AMD product did that?
(Spoiler alert: It was the R9 2xx series with bitcoins).
