Hi,

I'm currently running an,
I5 6600K
Gigabyte gaming 7 Z170 mobo
GTX 1080 G1
4x4GB corsair vengeance RAM
Evo 960 m.2
Evo 850 sdd
2x2TB Toshiba HDD

I have some money to spend and want do to some upgrades. But not sure where the best place to spend it is.

I'm going to upgrade the case to the Air 740 with an 115i AIO cooler as my current carbide spec 02 can't fit a top 240 or 280 radiator with the gaming 7 motherboard.

I don't know wether to hold off for x299 or go for ryzen/threadripper. But then again I don't want to waste money on a sidways move as I'm just a gamer and don't do video editing or anything else.

Or go for Z270 with optane and Intel an750 SSD as I've read it's super fast.

Does anyone have an oppinion or could offer any advice? Or should I just leave my system as is and just change the case?

Cheers

if u have a 144hz monitor, an i7 6700k can be a good upgrade. and if u dont have a good enough cooler, https://pcpartpicker.com/product/q9QRsY/scythe-mugen-5-512-cfm-cpu-cooler-scmg-5000 will fit inside the spec 02.
i would ask u to upgrade ur peripherals for a better experience. the gtx 1080 can power 2 1080p screens. if u dont have a good headset or mouse, those r some options. the way i see it, beyond a 6700k, there is nothing much/no need to upgrade ;)

i would just leave everything as is. a pc like yours really wouldnt benefit from and upgrade if you want get an i7 but nothing else. also i dont think x299 is going to be worth especially with amd ryzen now.
