I need help buying a wireless wifi adapter

Solution
That nic card will be fine if you feel you do not need dual band. It will only run on the 2.4g band which is perfectly fine. 2.4g generally has better coverage in most houses. You would want the 5g band mostly if there are a lot of neighbors competing for the 2.4g band.

Be very sure your PC has a PCI card slot, many only have the more modern PCI-E slots.

My recommendation is to purchase a wireless adapter that matches your router brand/manufacturer.

Just be sure that wireless adapter's specifcations are at lease inclusive of or exceed the router's specifications.

If you have two different manufacturers they will just point fingers at each other if there is a problem.

As for PCIE consider antenna extensions. The antenna extensions will help you place the antennas higher up or elsewhere about for improved wireless transmission and reception.

Common enough.

The next step is to determine what wireless specifications your router supports.

Look at the router: there should some information on the lable or case.

Did you receive a User Guide or Manual with the router? You may need to visit your ISP's website to download a copy.

Then look for and purchase a wireless adapter that meets or exceeds the router's capabilities.

See what you can find and post accordingly.

Avoid those tiny USB adapters they sacrifice the antenna size and transmit power to get the small size. Also they pretty much fit inside the metal case of your machine which blocks the signals. You really want your antenna as far from your computer as you can get so USB devices generally work better on USB extension cables.

As mentioned you need to match your router. If you do not know then the generic recommendation is to buy a dual band nic that has 2 antenna. These normally are sold with the number AC1200. These are mid to low priced devices and will match almost any router. You could buy a more expensive device but unless your router supports these faster rates your card will just drop back to the slower rates a more inexpensive card does.
