Windows 10 halts, memory compatibility issue or Ryzen?

Hey forum!

My new Ryzen computer hangs every once in a while, and I have to restart using the reset button. I have updated latest Bios, but this didn't solve the problem.

Here are my specs:

Motherboard: ASRock AB350M
Processor: AMD Ryzen 5 1600
Memory: Crucial Ballistix Sport LT Gray XMP (1 x 16 GB), BLS16G4D240FSB
Storage: SanDisk Plus 240 GB

I checked the memory module isn't officially supported, could that be the main cause of the problem?

Anytime you overclock it can add instablity but once set back to stock should operate correctly.

You may have a windows issue. Have you tried reinstalling windows? You may also want to optimize your windows 10 install. Much of windows 10 is just waste for gaming. Also run ccleaner to remove all junk and stream line your registry. Also use driver booster to make sure all your drivers are up to date. Both can be found in popular downloads in the first link. Second link is a guide to disabling unneeded windows services that take up RAM and cpu usage.

If your using AMP to overclock the RAM turn it off. You may nave to run the RAM as 2133 or lower until ASRock gets around to stablizing the RAM at its stock speed. Most RAM runs a bit slower on Ryzen to remain stable unless the motherboard makers have gotten around to stablity fixes.

I found an option to disable DRAM overclock and I set the frequency first to 2133, and later to 1866, unfortunately didn't solve the issue. I'm not really a Bios guru, so maybe I missed something? I guess I will have to try with different RAM later.

Well, the test has passed. I borrowed a G.Skill 2400 MHz 2 x 4 GB RAM sticks from a friend, but the system still continues to freeze. Is the problem in RAM frequency? I've also read that Ryzen CPU's caused desktops to freeze, but this issue was seemingly fixed in March or April with a Bios update.

The link is about 3 micro codes that caused the ryzen to freeze and crash. Its not why your system is freezing in games. If with other RAM the system still freezes it must not be the RAM. IE when you swap out parts and the issue remains its not that part. Could be your SSD so try changing the sata cable and change sata ports on your motherboard. Will your friend let you test with a drive? Then the video card? What is your video card and PSU?

Can the XMP memory have any affect on AMD systems? I will try swapping other parts, the sata cable might be faulty indeed. I have my own drivers and video cards for testing purposes too.

Currently installed:

Video card: MSI Radeon RX 480 8 GB Armor OC
Power supply: Cougar POWERX550 80+ Bronze

My system is not freezing in games, but on desktop most of the time. I have not been able to install any games yet, because of those freezes.
