If you transplanted the U12 ROM from a damaged PCB to a working PCB with the same part number and it does not spin, it is usually a sign that there is an issue with the soldering of the ROM or you put a U12 ROM onto a PCB that has embedded ROM, without U12.

Are you 100% sure that the original PCB was the root issue? What were the original symptoms? Are you able to post a picture of both PCBs?

Re-assemble the drive in its original condition. Toss it in the fridge for a bit, get it nice and cold, then give it a try. Usually the last resort method, but it can revive drives that have had mechanical difficulties.

If the logic board is truly bad, and a swap from a donor wasn't good enough (And that has to be an exact match, even from a similar build date) You have probably lost it. Unless you can shell out several hundred or a few thousand for professional recovery.

I can't really diagnose a hard drive through a forum. Click of death can be dealt with via freezing, sometimes. I would agree that the usefulness is probably going away with the materials and tolerances going into contemporary drives.

If the drive spins and you can hear the read/write head swinging around then it might be mechanically okay. Not sure random board swapping is a good idea, you really need to stick to the exact same model.

Just going by what you said, that was not the best idea is what I am saying.

Have you tried the other board again? An intermittent problem with the drive motor can't be ruled out.
