Well it all was working fine then it happened. It all started when I tried upgrading sp1 to sp2 then all hell broke lose.

I've had tried every possible thing you could do besides factory restore which I can't do till I can back up the data.

Where to start:

At first I was getting the blank black screen after the load screen, no windows icon, no mouse/cursor.

I'd get various 0xc errors which related to corrupt volume and boot manager.

I know all my files are still intact and the HD is ok cause I can still access through note pad or easyre.

Here's the real problem I'm having...

I should state I have a Sony viao laptop not sure the make but it's old, about 2004 running Vista home Ed.

Start up repair comes back with corrupt volume and corrupt boot manager.

No restore points which I actually had before Windows update which was the service pack which the restore point was same day just a few hours before which said there wasn't enough space to do so I deleted over 10 gb leaving me with 40gb free.

System some how deletes this restore point.

I've tried all safe modes and last known good config... No joy.

Just loads to blank black screen.

I can mash f8 on reboot to get to repair services and still comes back to same thing corrupt volume/ boot manager.

I will say that I managed to get into the pending.exe and deletes the _000000000000.cmf-ms or whatever it was can't really remember exact but made a copy to find out if this helps.

Moving on,. It reverted the install of service pack and looked promising until it just goes to the blank black screen just after boot with the Microsoft load bar again no logo before log in in fact I can't even get to the log in screen.

I fixed the boot with command prompt through the bootrec codes
But the corrupt volume remains

I should also mention I have no repair disk for this, can't even burn one because I can't get to desktop and use pdanet from phone to use internet so no option there.

I do however have the EasyRE for xp to windows 10 but the damned thing says my version of Windows is too new to be safely repaired by this version of EasyRE.... Why?

Can't get no help from EasyRE for reasons unknown... There just isn't any trouble shoot for that I don't know.

Lastly the EasyRe let's me into my hard drive and can see everything the damn system is just stuck right after Microsoft load bar... I haven't even seen nothing relative to my problem and done just about everything you could imagine but missing something obviously. Someone PLEASE HELP don't want to lose my data and there has got to be away to get back to where I was without a disk or resetting to factory.

As I said service pack 2 started this

I know it can be fixed. The hardware is fine, HD is fine. I can still access HD through notepad via command prompt or the EasyRe disk.

If HD was dead I wouldn't be able to do this.

Screw you Microsoft.

Thanks in advanced to whom ever that can free me from this hell of evermore.

PS. I don't know how long it will take for someone to find this but I'm seriously about to take a bridge.
years of work, pics, videos, music is on there please help!

To the OP: download and burn a Linux livecd, boot off of that, use it's file Explorer to get your files to a usb and then use your factory reset.

IMHO I think the requirements are just a sham to get as many people on 10 as possible. Will it run ten? Likely. Will it be fast? No. 1GB of ram isn't really even enough to run 7 that well but it'll be a little better. I have problems with 7 on 3 GB personally (not slow but sluggish at least...)
I'd actually recommend avoiding the windows mess and the OP choosing a lightweight Linux distro.

considering he has a laptop from 2004, windows 10 would not be a fun time.
maybe windows 7.

The requirements of Windows 7, 8 and 10 are almost identical in terms of requirements.

Plus, if you get 10 you won't be left in the dark when support ends for Windows 7.
