Hello, I recently got a free Phenom II x6 1090 cpu and I thought about trying to build a portable gaming desktop/ HTPC with this chip. I do realize that it is not ideal, but it was free. The only mini itx motherboard I can find for a AM3 chip only supports 95W, and because of this I was going to lower the voltage of the cpu.

So my question is, should I lower the frequency or disable cores? I am not looking for ultra high settings, but low to medium settings in easy to run games. My gpu (that I also got for free) is a GTX 650.

Here is the mother board: https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-880G-ITX-WiFi-Motherboard-Motherboards/dp/B004LWEFH2

On a side note, I have an AMD II x4 640 cpu lying around that is already rated at 95W, would that be better?

I don't think you'll be able to use that Phenom II in that particular board. At best, it'll throttle itself so it'll run a lot slower; at worst, it won't even turn on. The Athlon II would probably be a better fit.

You should see if you can find ZOTAC's 890GX-ITX-WiFi motherboard. It's pretty similar to the 880 (http://old.zotac.com/pt/products/mainboards/intel-cpu/zotac-z68/product/zotac-z68/detail/890gx-itx-wifi/sort/starttime/order/DESC/amount/10/section/specifications.html), & supports up to 140W TDP CPUs (http://www.zotacusa.com/specsheet/890GXITX-A-E.pdf).
