Hello everyone !

I have been having countless problems with my 2 month old gaming build.
After deciding that i need to change my cpu cooler i replaced it with a cooler master nepton 120xl.
At first the cpu cooler worked great keeping my i7-4790 3.60GHz at maximum temperature of 60 degrees celcius while playing Battlefield 1 on ultra graphic settings.

One day later after the pc was off for 24 hours i turn it on only to realise that it is running above 60 degrees celcius while idle. I know that this is not a temperature that could damage or effect the systems performance but with the cooler master nepton 120XL the fans tend to get loud above 50-60oc and make using the pc annoying. Of-course the temperature increases while gaming to temperatures of up to 100 celcius on the exactly same settings i played battlefield 1 the day before which is pretty frustrating.

I have since checked if the cooler is mounted properly and if all connectors are attached securely meanwhile placing my computer flat on the floor. In the process i realised that the cooler seemed to work while in this position cooling down from 90 to 70 celcius almost instantly. After that i picked it back up and saw a instant rise in temperature leading me to thinking that there is a problem with the pump not working properly.

My system

CPU : Intel Core i7 4790 @ 3.60GHz
RAM : HyperX FURY Black 16GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 800MHz
MTB : MSI Z87M GAMING
GPU : NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (MSI) 4gb
PSU : Corsair CX600M
MEMORY : Kingston - Savage 240GB 2.5" Solid State Drive
: Seagate - 1TB 3.5" 7200RPM Hybrid Internal Hard Drive
CASE : Corsair - SPEC-ALPHA (Black/Red)
CPU COOLER : Cooler master nepton 120xl

I have also replaced old thermal paste with a dab of Arctic Silver 5
Hope someone could give me any advice for what i could do or try to do.

Thanks :)

It could very well be the pump. I'd contact Cooler Master about warranty services. Pump failure is something that happens eventually on all liquid coolers, though.

Are these parts all new, or just new to you? The reason I ask is, most of them came out in ~2013-2014 and would be about 4 years old at this point. My experience is that even high quality pumps only tend to last about 4 years.

Could also be an air bubble. When the computer is in the upright position, the side of the radiator that does not have the hoses comping out of it should always be higher than the pump. If the pump/block is higher than this position than the air bubbles will tend to stay in the pump.block and reduce the water contact on the block.
