My budget recently got pretty tight due to a house fire, and over these last few weeks of no gaming I've been debating whether I should really build a PC or not. I understand that it is cheaper than a console in the long run and will hold up longer, but to what extent is it true? I've read in other forums that PC's are a good deal if you buy more than 10 or so games per year, but I don't really game that much. I'm trying to focus on my education and keep gaming as a hobby, so I don't think I'll be purchasing games frequently. If I were to buy the PS4 and Uncharted bundle, that would cost me around $250 (500gb slim on amazon). Let's say I buy Destiny 2 later on as well, bringing the grand total to about $310. Wouldn't that be much cheaper than a PC if I don't plan on purchasing more games? On the other hand, I have a lot of good games in my Steam library already (Fallout 4, Witcher 3: Wildhunt GOT) that I want to play, and I know that using a controller will be hell with some of my favorite games such as CS:GO. Am I doing the math correctly, or should I just build a budget PC? Are there any benefits to building a PC in my current situation (I already have a laptop)? If I purchase a console what should I do with my steam library? Would it be of any use to build a cheap computer alongside my console? I currently have a really expensive build, but if I don't need it I can just save my money for college or something. Also I'm aware that there's a monthly charge for consoles for multiplayer, but I don't know if I should spend my money on it. Games like R6 and CS:GO are leaning me towards a PC but then consoles are leaning me towards ease of access. I dont have anything against either platform, its just that under the current circumstances and time management I can't afford both. Also I want to be an engineer when I get older, so will building this PC help my career at all or will it just cause me to play videogames? I've noticed some of the smartest kids in my school don't really play videogames, and I guess my focus towards school got a bit better without gaming but not a whole lot. Sorry for this essay I'm just confused on what to do.

1 - if you already have an expensive build, why dont you use that?
2- personally i would not buy a console (and i dont) becuase computer graphics are WAY better than consoles if youre willing to spend a bit of money. Overwatch looks okay on my xbox (hooked up to my monitor) and amazing on my PC (hooked up to the same monitor)
4- if you are worried about school, then dont get either. start learning computer programming or some other knowledge/learning based entertainment .

I'm confused by the question. Using the phrase "profit margin" means that you're going to start a business selling PCs with the intent on making a profit. Profit margin means revenues - sales costs.
Now do you mean what benefits you would get from building a PC? That entirely depends on what you want to do with it. PCs aren't consoles in that they have a million other things that you can do with them as opposed to just playing video games. Do you want to use your PC towards getting a degree that can earn you money? Then that is what you need to consider.

No don't play games. Use your PC to start learning CAD and drafting programs, that will help you more in the long run than playing games will.

I work with CAD, Revit, and Sketchup on a daily basis. They are not easy programs to learn how to use, and use well.

I use Rhino3D a lot. It will run on integrated graphics. But as you increase the complexity of a model, performance suffers.

You can do basic stuff on those programs on integrated graphics, but start adding textures and you will need a dedicated GPU.
